It’s almost Christmas!! Time to buy some fun stuff that you, your family, friends, or kids don’t normally splurge on (at least, we don’t – toy-time for K comes but twice a year; and my hubby and I buy each other Christmas/Valentine’s/birthday/anniversary/Sweetest Day combo gifts).

More than just a financial splurge, Christmas is often a time when we lose sight of the meaning of the season – and all our other values, too. At least, I do. I might remember to buy local, made-in-the-USA items most of the time - then suddenly forget, when I see a good Black Friday sale, that I’m probably contributing to slavery by purchasing those gloves. Even if I happen to be accidentally ethical with those spur-of-the-moment “That’s so CUTE!” gifts I grab, there’s always the fact that I probably could have done a little research and bought something very similar (or better) for the same price from a young WAHM who’s hoping to earn enough this year to pay her son’s baseball dues. The more I think about it, the more I think that Jesus would have wanted his birth to be celebrated as a time of truly helping others, even with our gift purchases – instead of the gimme-gimme free-for-all it can be sometimes.

That said, I’m delighted to be working with two small businesses for the Green Christmas Gift Giveaway Hop! Both of these ladies produce high-quality products that are attractive, competitively priced, and made by hand here in the states. Whether or not you win these prizes, if you like what you see and are tempted to buy something, you can give yourself a little pat on the back for spending your holiday dollars in an ethical and truly Christmas-y fashion!

My first prize is a gorgeous handmade doll from Tabitha’s Needle. K *adores* her Tabitha’s Needle doll, and keeps it with her all through the night as a cuddle-buddy.
